Minnesota Twins fans will be hoping their team's playing meaningful baseball in August 2019. If not, they can switch to football when North Dakota State opens its season in Minneapolis at a reconfigured Target Field.

The Bison will host Indiana's Butler University at Target Field on Aug. 31, 2019, the Twins said Monday in what's being billed as the baseball venue's first NCAA Division I game.

It will be the first meeting between the two schools and will be the season-opener for both teams. Ticket information will be available at a later date.

The NDSU game announcement comes just a week after Target Field officials announced next year's Tommies vs. Johnnies game — a faceoff between St. Thomas and St. John's Universities, one of the biggest college football rivalries in Minnesota — will be played at the stadium on Sept. 23 next year.
