Study finds rent costs rising for more people

A new study from the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School of Public Affairs finds that since the Great Recession of 2008-09, the number of Americans who find it difficult to pay their rent has risen to historically high levels.

Roughly half of renters use more than 30 percent of their income to pay the rent. This is happening at a time when the share of people who rent is at its highest level since the 1960s.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Gregg Colburn, one of the authors of the study.
