Republican Stewart Mills says he's decided not to seek a recount after all of votes in Minnesota's 8th Congressional District. Mills had said he believed it was possible a hand recount of some 357,000 ballots would produce a different result than the machine count that showed he'd lost to DFL U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan by just over 2,000 votes in a hard-fought race considered one of the most competitive congressional contests in the nation this year.

Mills had also said his campaign would pay for a recount that would have cost at least $102,000.

On Friday afternoon, however, Mills released a statement saying he concluded the expense and amount of volunteer time that would have been needed for a recount was too much. He congratulated Nolan and thanked election workers for their efforts.
