Pilot of weather plane killed in crash near Fargo
The pilot of a weather airplane has died in a crash near Fargo.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the twin-engine Cessna 340 went down in a field not far from Interstate 29 along the banks of the Wild Rice River Thursday about 4:30 p.m. The plane belonged to Weather Modification Inc., a private cloud seeding company.
Patrol Capt. Bryan Niewind tells the Bismarck Tribune the 55-year-old pilot reported some sort of in-flight emergency to the air traffic control tower after departing Hector International Airport in Fargo.
Niewind says the pilot was dead when first responders arrived. He says the plane was on fire and pieces were scattered on the ground.
