DeVos comments on school choice questioned

One hundred and seven colleges and universities in the U.S. are HBCUs, Historically Black Colleges or Universities.

On Monday after a meeting with several HBCU leaders, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos released a statement saying these schools are "real pioneers when it comes to school choice."

DeVos is a big school choice proponent and she's taking a lot of heat for ignoring the history behind HBCUs, according to some.

Ronald Mason is president of the University of the District of Columbia, an HBCU, and he joined MPR News host Tom Weber to talk about DeVos' remarks.
