The U.S. Senate is expected to easily pass a $1.1 trillion spending bill Thursday that keeps the government funded until the beginning of the next fiscal year in October.

The bill is a bipartisan creation, which has both Democrats and Republicans claiming victory. Democrats boast it maintains funding for research and environmental protection and does not fund a border wall with Mexico. Republicans brag it increases military spending without increasing domestic spending in kind.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Democratic U.S. Sen. Al Franken to talk about the budget and the latest attempt by House Republicans to dismantle the Affordable Care Act.

He called the GOP's bill "terrible."

"It is so not going to fly in the Senate," he said.
