'Frankie' featured in TV documentary series 'American Epic'
Today's Morning Edition music is from "Frankie," a song recorded in 1928 by country blues legend Mississippi John Hurt.
It's one of the songs that is featured in a three-part television documentary series that debuts Tuesday night on PBS. "American Epic," which explores the birth of modern music in the United States, won several awards at the film festivals where it was screened.
In addition to the original recordings, "American Epic" features new performances of classic songs. Rapper Nas and guitarist Jack White take a stab at the Memphis Jug Band song "On the Road Again."
