The relationship between the United States and Mexico has been strained since the 2016 presidential election campaign, and remains so. The international town hall was hosted May 11, 2017 by Joshua Johnson of the public radio program 1A.

Guests in Mexico City: Monica Serrano, professor of international relations at the College of Mexico, and Rodrigo Cervantes, Mexico City bureau chief for Arizona public radio station KJZZ.

Guests in Washington, DC: Jose Cardenas of Vision Americas, formerly of the State Department and USAID. Doris Meissner of the Migration Policy Institute and former commissioner of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service. Peter Skerry, professor of political science at Boston College and contributor to the Weekly Standard and National Affairs.
