Today's Morning Edition music is from Otis Redding with "Shake," performed live at the Monterey International Pop Festival, which began 50 years ago.
It was the prototype for many future rock festivals, including Woodstock two years later.
D.A. Pennebaker's acclaimed documentary "Monterey Pop" will be screened this weekend at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. In addition to Redding's electric performance, the film introduced Janis Joplin to a national audience as the lead singer for Big Brother and the Holding Company.
