The Kinks' Ray Davies works with the Jayhawks on new album

Today's Morning Edition music is based on the birthday of Ray Davies, who is best known as the leader of the Kinks. He is 73 Wednesday. (And yes, he says it's pronounced Davis.)

His new solo album "Americana" features the Minneapolis-based Jayhawks as his backing band. On the album Davies, who is British, explores his perceptions of America. One song, "The Invaders," describes what it felt like coming to America with the Kinks as part of the British invasion in the 1960s.

Correction (June 21, 2017): The wrong name was used in an earlier headline. The story has been updated.
