The Minnesota Department of Transportation said Friday it will shut the ramp from Interstate 394 east to Interstate 94 east in Minneapolis for two weeks, starting Sunday night.
Yes, Sunday night.
That's earlier than expected. The agency initially said it would shut it down completely on Tuesday. MnDOT didn't offer any immediate explanation for the change.
The I-394 east ramp to I-94 east leads through the Lowry Tunnel; that stretch has been the only lane open in the eastbound tunnel since Aug. 4.
MnDOT says the closure is needed so improvements can be made to the ramp as part of the I-94 Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center project.
Crews will begin reopening the ramp in time for rush hour Aug. 28, MnDOT said.
