Hundreds gather at Bismarck Capitol to honor Fargo homicide victim

Native American music and prayers filled the Bismarck Capitol Mall where hundreds of people gathered to honor homicide victim Savanna Greywind.

The Bismarck Tribune reported many in the crowd Wednesday evening wore red to honor of indigenous women who are missing and murdered.

Greywind was eight months pregnant when she disappeared Aug. 19. Her body was found in the Red River eight days later. Police found a newborn believed to be Greywind's baby at a neighbor's upstairs apartment in Fargo. The couple who live in that apartment have been arrested and charged.

Communities across North Dakota are holding vigils for Greywind, a member of the Spirit Lake Dakota tribe. Another gathering is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday in New Town. A vigil is also planned for noon on Friday at the tribal office in Fort Yates.
