Late composer Michael Friedman's work premiers at Children's Theater

Today's Morning Edition music is ahead of opening night for a world premiere production by the Children's Theater Company in Minneapolis.

"The Abominables" is a musical about what happens when a yeti from the Himalayas tries out for a youth hockey team in the fictional town of Prairie Lakes, Minnesota. It was created and inspired by interviews with students and families around the state.

MPR News learned earlier this week that the composer of the show's music, Michael Friedman, had died. He wrote the opening number for the musical, called "Minnesota Nice."
