Black Violin performs at the Ordway

Black Violin performs Friday night at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul.

The duo is composed of violinist Kevin Sylvester and violist Wilner Baptiste. They met in a Fort Lauderdale high school and now combine hip-hop and classical influences into a distinct sound that's been called "classical boom."

As Sylvester told NPR, "You know, hip-hop and classical, in a lot of ways, are both party music for different eras."
