Gov. Mark Dayton has called a Wednesday morning press conference to announce who he's picked to represent Minnesota in the U.S. Senate and replace resigning DFL Sen. Al Franken.

Franken on Thursday said he'd leave the Senate in the coming weeks in the face of mounting accusations of sexual misconduct before and during his time in office.

Dayton has been weighing who will fill the job for the next year. A special election for the remaining two years of the Franken term will be held next November.

A spokesperson for the DFL governor said the pick will come at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Capitol.

There was no other information about who will take over for Franken. There is uncertainty over whether Dayton's pick will be a candidate in that election or clear the way for a wide-open race.
