The unofficial kickoff of the Twin Cities weekend road hassles season starts Friday night when the Minnesota Department of Transportation closes both directions of Interstate 35W in Minneapolis.

MnDOT is shutting down the highway starting at 10 p.m. Northbound I-35W will be closed from Minnesota Highway 62 to Interstate 94. Southbound I-35W will be shuttered from I-94 to 46th Street.

MnDOT says it needs to close the interstate so crews can demolish the 38th Street bridge that run above it. The highway is expected to reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.
