Are there enough protections for children and vulnerable adults?

The criminal charges filed against Jerry Lee Curry and Shelia Wilson have brought new scrutiny to protections for children and vulnerable adults.

Curry stands accused of raping, abusing and chaining his twin daughters who are vulnerable adults. Wilson is accused of criminal child neglect. In court documents, Wilson has said she believes the children made up the sexual abuse allegations.

MPR News guest host Brandt Williams spoke with two experts about what can be done to prevent similar cases in the future.

Williams spoke with:

Anita Raymond is the program manager at the Center for Excellence in Supported Decision Making / Protective Services For Volunteers of America in Minnesota and Wisconsin

Rich Gehrman is the founder and Executive Director of Safe Passage for Children
