State and local authorities continue to investigate a fiery crash that killed two people Saturday night in Coon Rapids, Minn.
The Anoka County Sheriff's Office reported that a 39-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, both from Coon Rapids, died in the single-vehicle crash that happened at about 9 p.m. Their names have not yet been released.
The Sheriff's Office said multiple people called 9-1-1 to report a car had crashed into a large cement power pole and caught fire near the corner of 119th Avenue and Northdale Boulevard NW. Coon Rapids police officers were able to put out the flames from the crash and discovered two adults inside; both were deceased.
"Multiple witness statements indicate the vehicle was traveling at extreme speeds for the suburban neighborhood," the Sheriff's Office reported in a news release. "There is no indication the decedents' vehicle was interacting with or racing any other vehicles."
The crash is being investigated by the Sheriff's Office along with the Coon Rapids Police Department, the Anoka County Coroner's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.
