Two children were severely burned Saturday night in a shed fire in northern Minnesota.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office reported that the children, ages 5 and 6, were playing in the shed in Culver Township, about 20 miles northwest of Duluth, at about 8 p.m. when a gas can tipped over.
The sheriff's office said in a news release that when the children tried to use an electric shop vacuum to clean up the spilled gasoline, the gas ignited. The flames spread to the children's clothing and the shed.
"Deputies provided medical aid until emergency medical services arrived on scene and transported the two children to a local hospital," the sheriff's office reported. Authorities said the children received second-degree burns over about 20 percent of their bodies.
The children have not been identified; an update on their condition was not immediately available Sunday.
