Race sends athletes paddling, portaging through Minneapolis

By canoe, kayak and paddleboard, by land and lake, 65 competitors took part in a unique race Saturday on and around the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes.
The Red Bull Urban Portage adventure race sent entrants on a 10-mile course winding from Cedar Lake to Wirth Park, with six miles of paddling and four miles of portages.

The race had five divisions; the winners were:
Solo male: Erik Hendrickson, Minneapolis
Solo female: Anna Yurchenko, Minneapolis
Tandem male: Mike Brumbaug and Jon Sanborn, Minneapolis
Tandem female: Kate Ellis and Maria Schilling, Minneapolis
Tandem male/female: Josie Nelson and Ryan Peterson, Medicine Lake

The race — the first of its kind for Red Bull, and the first of its kind in Minneapolis — was held in collaboration with the Loppet Foundation.
