A 36-year-old man was arrested Friday after allegedly crashing through a gate at the Duluth International Airport and driving onto an active runway.
The Duluth Police Department reported that a commercial flight was boarding at about 7 a.m. when authorities received a report of an unauthorized vehicle on airport grounds.
The driver was arrested after a pursuit and remained in the St. Louis County Jail on Saturday. He faces state and possibly federal charges.
The man was interviewed by the FBI, and authorities say they do not believe the incident was related to terrorism.
Airport officials told the Duluth News Tribune that the incident forced a shutdown of the airport for 30 to 40 minutes. A maintenance worker heard the vehicle crash through a gate near the Cirrus Aircraft facility and called police.
