A Hopkins man who escaped Wednesday morning from the Hennepin County jail has been captured in Little Canada.

Michael Frank Simon, 57, who was booked into the jail on Sept. 25 for financial transaction card fraud, escaped at about 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office asked for the public's help finding him. The office did not explain how he escaped.

Authorities said Simon was captured at about 10 a.m. Wednesday in coordination with the U.S. Marshals Service and several local law enforcement agencies.

Court documents describe Simon as a serial burglar who recently had been released from prison and was on parole when he allegedly stole a credit card off the desk of a local chiropractic clinic and used it.
