In his State of the State address this week, DFL Gov. Tim Walz used the stories of real people to try to persuade lawmakers to support his plans to increase spending for state transportation projects, classrooms and health care.

But with only about six weeks to go in the legislative session, Walz remains at odds with Senate Republicans over key issues, including health care funding and a higher gas tax.
