A 17-year-old girl was injured Friday when a falling boulder struck her car along U.S. Highway 61 in southeastern Minnesota.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported that the crash happened just after 6:30 p.m. on the highway at milepost 66; that's near Maple Springs, between Lake City and Wabasha.
A Ford Focus driven by Sydney Flack of Red Wing was heading south on the highway "when a boulder came off the side of the hill and collided with the vehicle," the Patrol reported.
Flack was transported to the hospital in Wabasha with what authorities said were non-life-threatening injuries.
Wabasha police officers and Wabasha County sheriff's deputies assisted at the scene. The sheriff's office, in a Facebook post Saturday morning, said there have been "a few instances" of rocks falling onto roads in the county in recent days.
