Internationally recognized expert Jane Kirtley of the University of Minnesota says the First Amendment protects controversial, outrageous and even offensive speech... and if everybody agreed with each other we wouldn't need the First Amendment.

Professor Jane Kirtley sheds light on the legal and ethical concerns about stifling free speech. She's the director of the Center for the Study of Media Ethics and Law at the University of Minnesota's Hubbard School of Journalism and an affiliated faculty member at the University of Minnesota Law School.

Political science professor Larry Jacobs moderated the discussion at the University of Minnesota Humphrey School on Monday, April 8th.

University of Minnesota student Isaiah Ogren, a member of the Minnesota Student Association, joined the discussion near the end of the program to discuss free speech on campus.
