Some insights into the ways conservatives are having good success influencing public policy in states around the nation.

Alexander Hertel-Fernandez of Columbia University has been studying the strategies and network-building that are needed to have long-term influence and power.

His new book is titled, "State Capture: How Conservative Activists, Big Business, and Wealthy Donors Reshaped American States — and the Nation."

Alexander Hertel-Fernandez is an assistant professor of international and public affairs at Columbia University. He spoke Monday at the University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
