St. Paul cops probe 'brazen' afternoon shooting that left 1 dead

St. Paul police are seeking the public's help to find out what happened in a "brazen" daylight shooting Friday that left a man dead outside a North End neighborhood grocery.

Officers were called to the 400 block of Maryland Avenue West at about 12:15 p.m. They found a man lying on the ground shot multiple times.

Despite lifesaving attempts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. It was the city's eighth homicide this year.

"Preliminary information from people who say they saw what happened indicates that the suspect sped away from the scene in a gray SUV," the department said in a statement, adding that the scene is being processed for evidence to help find the shooter.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call the department's homicide unit at 651-266-5650.
