There normally is a traffic light at that intersection, but the signals have been removed and some turn lanes closed because of road construction currently underway. The Patrol did not say who had the right of way at the time of the crash.
Authorities identified the bicyclist who died as John Ewers, 51, of White Bear Lake. The driver of the SUV, a 30-year-old Mahtomedi man, was not injured.
The Patrol said road conditions were dry at the time, and that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Correction (May 4, 2019): An earlier version of this story did not note that road construction at the crash site has resulted in the removal of traffic signals.
