MPD in search of suspect in apparent stranger sexual assault

Minneapolis police are alerting residents of an alleged sexual assault early Wednesday morning in southeast Minneapolis.

They say they responded to a 911 call from a woman who said she had been assaulted after a man unknown to her forcibly entered her apartment.

MPD spokesperson Darcy Horn says the alleged assault is unusual in that it involved a stranger.

"Most often, assault of this [type] is domestic or there is a previous relationship, but this case appears at this time in the investigation that this is a stranger situation," Horn said. "So, we want to get the information out to the public."

Authorities are looking for the suspect in the alleged assault and trying to determine whether the Wednesday attack is related to other sexual assaults.

The preliminary description of the suspect is a white male in his 50s with brownish-red facial hair, Horn said.

Police are encouraging anyone with information on this case to call Crime Stoppers of Minnesota.
