Two-vehicle crash leaves one dead, five others injured in St. Paul

A head-on crash in St. Paul’s Battle Creek neighborhood Tuesday left a woman dead and five other people injured.

The first calls alerting dispatchers to the crash where Lower Afton Road and Morningside Circle meet were around 6:25 p.m.

When officers arrived to the scene, several people were already attempting to help the injured.

An 18-year-old woman who was ejected from one of the vehicles died at the scene.

Three men — ages 29, 25, and one of unknown age — were taken to area hospitals in critical condition. A 19-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man were also taken to the hospital with non-critical injuries.

According to St. Paul police, a white Pontiac G6 carrying six people turned west on to Lower Afton Road from Morningside Circle and crashed head-on with a red Pontiac G6 carrying two people traveling east in the eastbound lane.

Investigators are trying to determine who was driving the white vehicle, and whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.

No arrests have been made as of Thursday night, and the case remains under investigation.
