The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said one man was killed and a Willmar police officer was seriously injured after an incident early Friday, though the cause of the man's death wasn't immediately clear.
The BCA said Willmar police were called to a home on a domestic call at 5:40 a.m. They arrived to find a man inside.
One officer suffered multiple knife wounds in the encounter and was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital. That officer is in stable condition and expected to survive, the BCA said. A woman who was at the home was also injured and was treated at a hospital and released.
At one point an officer discharged a stun gun, and the BCA says it’s unknown whether any officers used a firearm. It's not known whether the man was struck by the stun gun or gunfire, but he died at the scene. An autopsy is being conducted to determine how he died.
The BCA is investigating. It is not yet known whether the incident was captured on body camera video. The names of the people involved have not yet been released.
