A Maple Grove man who admitted to killing his wife earlier this year died Saturday night in the Hennepin County Jail. Authorities say the man died by suicide.
Joshua Fury, 29, pleaded guilty on July 14 to intentional second-degree murder in the asphyxiation death last spring of 28-year-old Maria Fernanda Bliss Fury.
Joshua Fury had initially reported his wife missing in late April, and law enforcement conducted a large-scale search, which included the use of a helicopter. Her body was found a few days later, buried in a crawl space under their home.
Fury's sentencing hearing had been scheduled for July 31; he was expected to receive 38 years in prison.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said Fury died by hanging.
In a statement, the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said deputies found Fury unresponsive in his cell just after 7 p.m. Saturday. They began CPR but those life-saving efforts were not successful. Fury had been housed alone in his cell.
The sheriff's office said its detectives are investigating, and the Minnesota Department of Corrections is expected to review the incident as well.
