Snowboarders launched themselves off a 20-foot drop from a park pavilion and navigated obstacles including picnic tables and staircase railings on Sunday during a "street snowboarding" competition in Duluth.

The event — called Red Bull Heavy Metal, and sponsored by the energy drink giant — took place at Cascade Park, on the hillside above downtown Duluth. Spectators lined the course and watched from vantage points on the surrounding hillside.

It was the first street snowboarding competition hosted by Red Bull since 2003.

Benny Milam of Chisago City, Minn., won the men's competition and Maggie Leon of Vermont won the women's event.
