Jessie Diggins takes bronze medal in cross-country sprint
Jessie Diggins took the bronze medal in the women’s freestyle sprint race on Tuesday. She's the first woman in U.S. Olympic history to claim a medal in an individual cross-country ski event.
Diggins, of Afton, Minn., finished 3.16 seconds behind first-place Jonna Sundling of Sweden with a 3:09.68 finish. Second place was also Team Sweden’s Maja Dahlqvist, who finished 2.88 seconds behind the lead finish.
Diggins teammate, Rosie Brennan of Anchorage, Alaska, finished in fourth place, finishing 4.49 seconds behind the top finishing time.
Diggins claimed a gold medal in 2018 in the women’s team sprint relay with Kikkan Randall.
Sundling is a first-time Olympian but has two world championship sprint titles, and team sprint titles with Dahlqvist.
