End of nationwide federal free lunch program has some states scrambling

Kindergarten students were seated in every other chair during snack time at South Elementary in St. Peter. The pandemic-era federal aid that made school meals available for free to all public school students ended Sept. 30, raising concerns about the effects in the upcoming school year for families already struggling with rising food and fuel costs.
