Twins right-hander Daniel Duarte scheduled for season-ending elbow surgery

Minnesota Twins right-handed reliever Daniel Duarte will have season-ending elbow surgery on May 8, the team announced Saturday.

Twins athletic trainer Nick Paparesta said the surgery will be performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Texas.

“He had ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction done 10 years ago," Paparesta said of Duarte. "He is going to need another procedure done on his elbow. I’ll hold off on exactly what that’ll be until he has the procedure done to give you a little bit more specifics on that.”

Duarte, a non-roster invitee who made the Twins' opening day roster, allowed two hits, including a home run, over four innings in two games.

A right elbow injury limited the 27-year-old Duarte to three games with Cincinnati in 2022, but he had a 3.69 ERA in 31 games with the Reds last season.
