If you’re planning to use public transportation on New Year’s Eve in the metro area, it’s important to note that Metro Transit will not be providing free rides. This is a change from previous years due to lack of sponsorship, according to the organization. 

All-day passes ranging from $2-5.00 are available for purchase. They can be used from the point of sale until 2 a.m. the next day. Special rides and services on the Blue and Green lines will be offered starting at 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1.

However, if you’re in the suburbs of Minneapolis, the Metro Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) will be offering 

 on New Year’s Eve after 6 p.m. on fixed bus routes. 

Riders must download the RideMVTA App to redeem their free ride.
