Freeborn County deputies responded to a home on the 21000 block of 880th Avenue just after 7 p.m. Tuesday after a report of a “domestic disturbance possibly involving firearms.”
Deputies later learned the suspect had left the home. He was later located by deputies in nearby Mower County, who started to pursue the man’s vehicle. The man returned to the home southeast of Albert Lea, pursued by deputies.
“The suspect exited the vehicle and a use-of-force incident occurred where law enforcement officers discharged their firearms,” the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office reported in a news release. The sheriff’s office did not say what prompted officers to fire, and did not say whether the man was armed.
The man died at the scene.
As officers searched the property, they found the woman dead near the home. The sheriff’s office said it believes she died before officers arrived, but did not say how she died.
Authorities said parts of the incident were captured on body camera videos. The law enforcement officers involved in the shooting have been placed on critical incident leave.
