The wife of Vance Boelter, the man suspected of killing former DFL Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, released a public statement Thursday.

“On behalf of my children and myself, I want to express our deepest sympathies to the Hortman and Hoffman families,” Jenny Boelter wrote. “Our condolences are with all who are grieving during this unimaginably difficult time.” 

In the statement released through Halberg Criminal Defense, the legal firm representing her, Jenny recounted the hours after Vance Boelter allegedly shot the Hortmans and State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette. 

Jenny said she received a call from law enforcement on the morning of June 14 and agreed to meet agents at a nearby gas station. She said she parked at the station and waited for officers, and said she was not pulled over. 

“We voluntarily agreed to meet with them, answer their questions, provide all items they requested, and cooperate with all searches,” Jenny said. 

Jenny’s three children were in the car with her.

 that Jenny initially denied knowledge of anything when an agent first called. But she was otherwise cooperative.

Investigators searched her car on the morning of the shootings. Federal prosecutors wrote in a criminal complaint against Vance Boelter that investigators found about $10,000 in cash, two handguns and passports for Jenny and her children.

In the search of her cell phone, investigators said they found texts from Vance Boelter from early that morning, telling Jenny he was sorry and instructing her to leave the house.
