Authorities in Blue Earth County responded to two vehicle-vs.-building crashes in less than four hours on Thursday.

One crash happened Thursday afternoon in the city of Eagle Lake. The other happened Thursday evening in South Bend Township, just west of Mankato. No one was seriously injured in either crash.

In the first crash, the sheriff’s office said a 28-year-old woman was attempting to park her SUV on Agency Street in the city of Eagle Lake just after 3:30 p.m.

The driver “told deputies she panicked when the car began moving forward and accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake,” according to a sheriff’s office news release. The vehicle crossed Le Ray Avenue and a lawn, and crashed into an unoccupied office area in the city public works building. 

The driver was not injured, and authorities said she was not impaired. The crash is being considered an accident.

The second crash happened just before 7:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Rehabilitation Center in South Bend Township, just south of U.S. Highway 169 west of Mankato.

The sheriff’s office said a car driven by a 72-year-old woman from rural Mankato was traveling north on County Road 33 when it went through an intersection, crossed a lawn and hit the west side of the facility.

The driver suffered minor injuries, and authorities said they detected signs of impairment. As of Friday morning, charges were pending results of testing.

The sheriff’s office said a Hillcrest resident also suffered minor injuries in the crash, and was taken to a Mankato hospital. While some residents were relocated to other parts of the building, all were able to remain on-site on Thursday night.
