The owners of Café & Bar Lurcat in Minneapolis announced Tuesday that the iconic restaurant will close in September, after nearly a quarter-century as a favorite of locals and visiting celebrities alike.
The pending closure comes as the lease for Café & Bar Lurcat is set to expire. The last day of public service will be Sept. 5.
“It has been an incredible honor to be a part of so many lives and to create a space where memories were made and celebrated,” said Larry D’Amico, co-owner of the restaurant along with Richard D’Amico and Paul Smith, in a news release announcing the closure. “The heart of Café & Bar Lurcat has always been our amazing team and the community that embraced us. The loyalty and love received over the years is deeply appreciated.”
The restaurant overlooking Loring Park opened in 2002. And as it welcomed countless guests over the years — including Mick Jagger, Prince and Lady Gaga — it also helped launch the careers of many in the restaurant industry, in the Twin Cities and beyond.

Isaac Becker — executive chef and owner of 112 Eatery, Bar La Grassa and St. Pierre Steak & Seafood — was executive chef at Café & Bar Lurcat when it opened. In the restaurant’s closure announcement, he said his experience at Lurcat “was life-altering, very rewarding, and taught me the guest experience is as vital as the food itself.”
Over the next couple months, Café & Bar Lurcat will have a menu featuring classic dishes from its past.
The owners said Café & Bar Lurcat gift cards can also be redeemed at other D’Amico & Partners restaurants, including three D’Amico & Sons locations in the Twin Cities.
The news of the upcoming closure of Café & Bar Lurcat comes less than a week after two other longtime Minneapolis businesses announced they’re closing — Annie’s Parlour restaurant has closed after more than 50 years, and Palmer’s Bar will close in September after nearly 120 years.
