The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has charged two people in what officials are calling a "massive" methamphetamine seizure.

Authorities said undercover law enforcement bought one pound of methamphetamine from Guillermo Chaparro on July 2 and that after surveilling Chaparro and Joel Casas-Santiago, they seized 892 pounds of meth on July 7 from two vehicles in south Minneapolis.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty described the amount of illicit drugs allegedly recovered as "staggering.”

“These drugs were on our streets in huge quantities and nearly made it into the hands of our neighbors who struggle with drug use,” Moriarty said in a statement.

The attorney’s office said both men have local ties in the Twin Cities area but are also allegedly associated with larger drug sale organizations in Mexico.
