A section of Interstate 94 in the Twin Cities has reopened ahead of schedule.
All lanes of eastbound I-94 between I-35 in Minneapolis and Highway 280 in St. Paul opened at about 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Westbound I-94 remains closed along that stretch until 5 a.m. Monday.
MnDOT closed the highway in both directions this weekend to restore pavement markers and return traffic to its permanent configuration ahead of the Minnesota State Fair, which starts Thursday.
I-94 had been down to just two lanes in each direction near the Mississippi River since last spring, as part of a bridge repair project.
The reprieve will only be temporary. Once the State Fair ends, lane closures along that stretch of I-94 are set to resume in September.
