A three-alarm fire destroyed several buildings in northeast Minneapolis on Sunday morning.
The Minneapolis Fire Department says crews were dispatched to 15th and Central Avenues Northeast at about 4:13 a.m. and discovered a vacant commercial building on fire.
The fire at the three-story building spread to two adjacent buildings.
“We are still continuing to work at extinguishing that fire,” said Melanie Rucker, assistant fire chief. “Because of the buildings collapsing and that collapse zone there is a fire under the void spaces and in that area. Again, it's been challenging and we're continuing to keep it contained to that area.”
No injuries or deaths were reported, but Rucker says not every building was able to be searched due to fire and collapse danger.
“Even gaining access to the building was a challenge,” Rucker said, noting that the property was gated and debris blocked entrances.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
