Melissa Keele poses for a portrait on April 7, at her home in Grand Junction, Colo. Melissa's son, Jaden Keele, 23, not pictured, has been dealing with severe mental illness for years. In 2023, he hit a breaking point and attempted suicide while driving. He wandered away from his car and was later found. Melissa took him to the nearby West Springs Hospital in Grand Junction and he was discharged 102 minutes later. He has spiraled since then, and been in and out of hospitals and jails.
