Minneapolis police announced Tuesday that they’ve arrested the suspected gunman in an August shooting that left one person dead and six injured.
Police said they arrested 24-year-old Trayveion Alvin Green on Monday night. He's charged with seven felonies, including second-degree murder and attempted murder.
The midday shooting on Aug. 26 happened outside of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, near Clinton Avenue and 29th Avenue South.
The criminal complaint alleges Green stepped out of a car with a rifle and fired more than two dozen shots at a group of people on the sidewalk. 35-year-old Gregory Sweeten died from his injuries.
The criminal complaint does not outline a possible motive. Green made an initial court appearance on Tuesday, where bail was set at $2 million. He remains in the Hennepin County Jail and is due back in court next month.
Green is the third person charged in connection with the shooting. Two alleged accomplices were arrested the day of the shooting and charged with aiding an offender. The gunfire happened as students and staff were inside the nearby high school.
“This mass shooting outside an occupied school had a chilling impact on our entire community, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to this investigation,” Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said in a news release announcing the arrest. “We hope that bringing this shooter in to be held accountable for his actions will begin to provide a sense of justice for the victims and their families.”
