Heavy snow and difficult travel expected again, heaviest snow in southern Minnesota

Parts of Interstate 35W in the southern Twin Cities area will be closed overnight this week — starting at 9 p.m. Monday — as crews work on a bridge over the freeway.

Southbound I-35W between I-494 in Bloomington and the I-35 split in Burnsville, will be closed Monday night and Tuesday night. Those closures begin at 9 p.m. and run until 5 a.m. the next day, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. 

Northbound I-35W will be reduced to a single lane. 

Then, on Wednesday and Thursday nights, northbound I-35W will be closed from the I-35 split to I-494. Those closures are also from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The closures will allow crews to work on one of the Highway 13 bridges over the freeway.

Motorists traveling southbound on I-35W can use eastbound I-494 to southbound Highway 77 to southbound I-35E and southbound I-35 as it merges back with its western counterpart as a detour. Motorists traveling northbound on I-35 can use northbound I-35E to northbound Highway 77 to westbound I-494 to northbound I-35W as a detour.

If crews complete the work ahead of schedule, they will reopen the closures early.
