On Tuesday, MPR News is setting up shop in Rochester with live shows, community stories and more.
Catharine Richert, our veteran Rochester correspondent, will guest host our 9 a.m. call-in show live from the bureau. She’ll talk about access to rural health care in the wake of Mayo Clinic Health System's recent decision to end on-call labor and delivery services in Owatonna. Catharine will talk with her guests about what it means for families — and for rural health care in Minnesota.
Our latest host addition, Clay Masters, will also be live on Tuesday and Wednesday sharing stories that highlight southern Minnesota. You’ll hear about a rural labor and delivery ward that’s bucking a national trend of closures, and whether a statewide grant program has been successful in keeping Rochester businesses afloat during the city’s downtown transformation.
We’ll also hear from Rochester musician Amy Abts about the ‘90s music scene, television producer and writer Jim Mallon of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame about growing up in Rochester, and local restaurateurs about the city’s food scene.
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Politics Friday host Brian Bakst will be leading a live, in-person event discussing local and national politics and checking in with some of our reporters.
