An ICE agent shot at a man who they say hit two agents with his car on Sunday, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

No one was struck by the bullets and the agents had non-life threatening injuries, according to a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson.

The St. Paul Police Department said its officers were not involved in the arrest or the use of force, but its officers were called to the 1300 block of Westminster Street just after 8:20 a.m. Sunday on a report of shots fired.

ICE said its agents identified themselves as law enforcement during a “lawful vehicle stop” on Sunday. The man allegedly refused to roll down his window and drove away, striking an ICE agent, according to a DHS statement sent to MPR News on Sunday.

ICE agents chased the man, who pulled into a parking lot near his home, where he allegedly hit two parked vehicles and the second ICE agent.

ICE said one of the agents struck by the vehicle fired “defensive shots” that did not hit anyone.

The man attempted to flee into his apartment, but agents arrested him.

The two ICE agents and the man were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The man is currently in ICE custody.
