Thousands gathered in the cold in downtown Minneapolis Friday for a rally and march to protest the federal immigration enforcement surge in Minnesota.
A coalition of more than 100 groups — labor unions, clergy, childcare workers, immigrants and more — organized the march. They are calling on Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to leave Minnesota, and for authorities to prosecute Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who shot and killed Renee Macklin Good in Minneapolis earlier this month.
Demonstrators expressed they are frustrated and fed up with the recent surge in federal immigration enforcement in Minnesota.
Dani Schueller, who took off work to attend, was holding an American flag because she believes what ICE is doing is un-American.

“I mean, America does care. It does care for immigrants. We protect each other. We stand for democracy. And what ICE is doing now is not democratic. It is not protecting our neighbors, said Schueller.
The crowd included families and other young people. 13-year-old Mila, who came with her dad Justin Nelson. Mila said she came out “because a five year old is never a criminal,” referring to the 5 year old that was recently detained by ICE.
“I thought it was really important for her to see people out and doing these things,” said Nelson. “It’s tough when you watch stuff on TV and that's the only outlet you have, I think it's important to get out and see things in real life and see that people are clearly upset.”
Demonstrators, many of whom were first time protesters, said they hope today’s rally will draw action by public officials.
